Predator

for solo piano

2015

Duration: 7’

Instrumentation: Piano

About the piece:

Commissioned by Carl E. Baldassarre for the second annual Baldassarre Composer/Performer competition.

Predator explores the cunning and the deceptive parts of nature; the hunger and drive within every creature to achieve its fullest potential. As you listen to this piece, you’ll notice a sense of persistence and anguish. A drive that propels the piece to insanity. There are bursts of musical information interrupted by variated space. Instability leading to stability, only to become unstable once more. A taste of challenge, inspiration, joy, and agony that all people have experienced as they strive to accomplish a goal.
